Law is the study of the rules a society enforces and the reasoning by which they are applied. It reaches into politics, economics, ethics and commerce, but it is distinguished by one requirement the others do not share: every statement of law must be supported by authority, meaning a statute, a case, or occasionally a recognised academic source.
That changes how the coursework is written. A law assignment is not a discussion of what the rule ought to be unless it explicitly asks for one. It is an application of the rule as it currently stands, in a named jurisdiction, to a specific set of facts. Marks are lost for unsupported assertion faster than for a wrong conclusion honestly reasoned.
Jurisdiction is the other hard constraint. English, Australian, Canadian, US and Indian law diverge substantially even where the terminology matches, and an answer citing the wrong country's authority is simply wrong. We confirm the jurisdiction and the referencing style before any writing begins.
